Island House logo

Client: Island House Community Centre
Brief: Logo design

Client spec:
Subtle reference to Christian church origins (which funds a big part of the projects held here). Multi-faith community centre being used as a hub for the local community. Art workshops: patchwork, stained glass.

Rational for my proposed logo design:
Inspired by the geograhical position on the Isle of Dogs, my aim was to produce a island/water concept that is completely different to all the partner logos. In terms of the shape of the river, I produced a vector drawing with a 3D perspective, hoping to give the whole logo direction and embracing at the same time. The symbolism of water straddles all religions: Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism etc. Subtle reference to its Christian origins can be found in the letters 't' in the words "community centre". The bridging forms between the lowercase 'i' and 'h' in the graphic, resonating connectivity and building links within the community it serves. The letter 'i' draws attention to Island House as a beacon in the community.

This is demonstrating how the logo translates as a masthead for their newsletter. I just made up the name Beacon and pulled thin radiating lines from the sun in letter 'i' in logo.

J proposed a 2nd logo design based on multi-faith concept, but we were planning to guide the client to go for the island/water concept. Their next board meeting is in January, we'll see how goes.
